Being A Fan
So I’m still working through these thoughts of being a fan of others.
Another development in this idea of being an authentic fan of others is that sometimes we have to hear things others don’t want to hear. An example of this can be as simple as because I am for Toby and am a fan of him I will make him go to bed at a certain time. He may not want to hear that and he probably won’t even agree with it but it must be said.
I’m finding that the people in our lives who probably can speak the most wisdom or best truth are rarely invited in to make such statements.
Recently someone shared some things that were hard for me to hear. I felt like I knew what they were going to say and then they said it and after they said it I was defensive. I was full of emotion and my friend just stared at me and then I knew he was right. I am glad he is my friend and I’m glad he is a fan of me. He is willing to be a fan that calls out my best which sometimes means calling out the things I’m not able to see.
Interesting couple of post marty. I’ve been on every side of this at some point in my life. I guess the challenge is to remain in a posture of love whether we are supporting others being supported or even hearing things we don’t want to hear from a friend. great food for thought
