Day 32: Luke 6-8
Rocking out a few thoughts.
- The Sabbath is a main subject in the life of Jesus. Jesus is always pushing against the religious legalism of it but I believe we have gone completely the other way. Define a healthy Sabbath and then examine your life and see if you are actually living one. I think the idea of the Sabbath should still be alive. I wonder if we experience greater health if we would honor the Sabbath better.
- The Twelve Apostles included a couple sets of brothers.
- Jesus busts out the line – even sinners do that – I think we often want kuddo’s for doing the very thing everyone else is doing.
- The Centurion uses the word authority. We have no idea what this word means.
- More Awe – More news spreading
- John the Baptist asks Jesus if He’s the one. Jesus unloads a bunch of awesome things he is doing. Notice he doesn’t say anything about people receiving salvation. All of the reporting back to John the Baptist was about the here and now. What has changed?
- Contrast the above with the sinful women. Here Jesus not only forgives her sins but also mentions her faith. Faith is the key to salvation.
- One of the things I’m continually trying to figure out at thebridge is how we can be a light without being annoying. How can we be bold without being arrogant.
- Jesus works his way through a demon possessed storm to set one guy free and then goes back. There are a ton of things to point out here but the one I want to mention is that he was and is still willing to go the distance to set us free.
- Notice the number of years the woman had been bleeding and the age of the girl. Jesus is restoring the 12, Israel.
