Wise Thoughts On Money

I am not that smart but I know people who are. My wisdom is small but I know people who have great wisdom. So today I would like to offer up to you some thoughts about money from some smart and wise people that I learn from.

Mark Batterson recently gave a message on tithing. Here is a link to his recap.

4 year old Elijah Furtick shares his thoughts on how to use God’s money here.

Nelson Searcy shares a great quote here.

Perry Noble shares some thoughts about putting God first in your finances here.

Jenny and I spent the first six years of our marriage without paying any attention to our finances. We were faithful tithers and trusted God to take care of the rest. I can attest that He has done far more than take care of the rest but at some point we are still responsible for using wisdom with the rest of the money and we were not doing that. We set out to tackle our “good” debt which is still debt by coming up with a budget and actually sticking to it. We are now 9 months into this journey and have learned so much. Most of our learning has come from a guy named Joe Sangl. I’d encourage you to consider this topic of money and ask yourself some questions.

  • Does my checkbook reflect my heart for God?
  • Am I in debt? Do I have a plan to get out of debt?
  • Do I have a budget?
  • Who do I discuss big purchase decisions with or do I just do what I want?
  • Am I pursuing money to upgrade my standard of living or my standard of giving?

If you are looking for advice/counseling/person to bounce some financial thoughts of could I encourage you to e-mail the office@ottumwabridge.org. We have a group of trained counselors who would love to encourage you and give you ideas in how to move forward no matter what your situation is.
